The Beatles: A Private View

The Beatles- A Private View
I received this book by accident about 6 months ago; it was given to me by a friend of a friend, along with many others. This book was, by every means, spectacular...Robert Freeman trailed the Beatles for several years throughout their career as a band, and then going on to chronicle the solo artists as well. His writing style keeps the reader's eyes glued to the pages, not only because of it's pictorial wonderments, but also because the author has an amazing talent for writing. I am the daughter of a 60's female Beatles die-hard, and listening to her stories, combined with the perspectives and views within these pages, brought it all to life for me. I recommend this book to ANYONE that is a fan of the Beatles, no matter the generation; although FIRST GENERATION BEATLES FANS...this book is A MUST!! Being that it is an out of print book, even more reason to own it; it will definitely be a platinum collector's item someday, mark these words...

The Beatles: In the Beginning
Published in Hardcover by Universe Books (October, 1993)
Author: Harry Benson
Average review score:

The first of his photo books: LOTS OF GREAT PHOTOS!!!
Benson captures many great moments, many of which are centered around the time of '64. Lots of photos from Paris, shows them walking around in the streets, in the hotel, even writing! He had the opportunity to go behind the scenes, and he did a good job in taking advantage of it. Wonderful book!

The Beatles: The Dream Is over: Off the Record
Published in Paperback by Omnibus Press (01 January, 2003)
Author: Keith Badman

THE REFERENCE BOOK ABOUT THE SOLO YEARS !
This is a must-have book ! Really, this is the best book ever published on the beatles solo years history !!!
It's like the sequel to the "Anthology" book. The Beatles themselves, through 30 years of interviews, tell their story from 1970 to 2001. Even if you're a big fan like me you'll find a lot of information you don't already know. It even includes some very rare and beautiful photos...
All Beatlefans must have this great new book !!!

Behind the Music Casualties of Rock
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (July, 1901)
Author: Quinton Skinner
Average review score:

interesting
This book is great for people who are interested in rock and roll history. I learned, unfortunately, how tragically some musicians lost their lives. Some committed suicide or were murdered; others were killed by car or plane crashes; for others drug and alcohol took over their lives. This is a quick read. And, I admit there are some names that I believe shoudn't have been left out- e.g. R&B legends- Donny Hathaway and Phyllis Hyman. But, I still highly recommend this book! You will probably learn some interesting facts that you never knew!

"Satisfaction" guaranteed.
I read an extract from this book in THE INDEPENDENT (UK national newspaper) of March 4th 1998. The extract gave the story behind the writing of the Stones' "Satisfaction" which fascinated me, making me want to read the book. I'm delighted to find it is available in the U.S..

The Best Book of Fossils, Rocks, and Minerals
Published in Hardcover by Larousse Kingfisher Chambers (April, 2000)
Author: Chris Perrault
Average review score:

A wonderful book for a budding geologist
This book was and is a big hit with my four-year-old. Clear, easy-to-understand text and big, bright illustrations make the book accessible to young readers. It is neatly formatted into two-page "chapters" focusing on specific topics, which makes it easy for him to "look up" whatever he's interested in that particular day. It also has useful tips for starting a rock collection, and (important for parents) convenient ways to store said collection. I recommend this book to any parent with a child interested in any aspect of geology.

Best of Lenny Kravitz for Guitar
Published in Paperback by Cherry Lane Music (July, 1999)
Author: Cherry Lane Music
Average review score:

The Best Of Lenny Kravitz for Guitar
This book features the sheet music for several of Lenny Kravitz's most popular songs. The sheet music is in standard, not tab format. Which enables it to be used for piano as well as guitar players. The sheet music also includes the chords and lyrics for each song. That makes it easy to sing along while you belt out the riffs. Songs from each of Lenny's first five albums are represented in this book. From the album titled "Let Love Rule", there are the songs: "Let Love Rule, Rosemary," and "I Build This Garden For Us." From the album "Mama Said", the songs: "Butterfly, Stand By My Woman, and It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over" are listed. The songs: "Are You Gonna Go My Way, Believe, Black Girl," and "My Love" come from the album "Are You Gonna Go My Way". The song "Rock And Roll Is Dead," comes from the "Circus" album. And the smash hits "Fly Away" and "I Belong To You," come from the grammy award winning album titled "5". This book is a great tool for any musician who wants to play Lenny's music. The sheet musics standard format, lyrics, and display of cords. Will have any musician sounding like Lenny in no time.

The Best of Steely Dan Gtr Tab
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (March, 1900)
Average review score:

Excellent book for SD guitar/kybd freaks
This book is outstanding, almost every damn note (except basslines) is transcribed here, and dead-on accurate, too. The 'Complete Transcribed Scores' book is wrong in a lot of places, but I haven't found a wrong note yet, and I've had this book for years. Tabs to my SD favs "Gaucho" and "Don't Take Me Alive" are a real treat.
